Clarence Jazz Festival Day 6

Various venues

6-10pm, 23 February 2017

Tickets Twilight Concerts free, Compliments to the Crooners $15

Two of our most picturesque settings host four bands of very different styles before the Jazz Lounge at Rosny Barn opens up with a spectacular salute to the jazz crooners of yore.

Richmond Village Green

  • 6-7pm: Harry Edwards Trio
    • The Harry Edwards Trio perform original instrumental compositions inspired by gypsy jazz, modern jazz, and classical music. This performance will feature material from their 2015 debut album, as well as new pieces arranged for guitar, bass and violin.
  • 7-8pm: Mouldy Fig
    • Anita van Riet has been singing early 20s jazz and blues for over 21 year and has performed a number of tributes to her favourite blues artist, Bessie Smith. Anita’s soulful and rich tones lend themselves naturally to this genre.

Rosny Farm

  • 6-7pm: Tim Jones and the Big Cheese
    • From shuffles to bossas, show-tunes to funky grooves, Tim, the tuba player for the TSO and his Big Cheese open up an evening of brass on the manicured lawns of Rosny Farm.
  • 7-8pm: Howlin Jim and his Hot Four
    • Toe tapping, brassy trad jazz from new young players channelling boom-town swing.

The Jazz Lounge at Rosny Farm

  • 8-10pm: Compliments to the Crooners ($15)
    • With finger snappin’ vocals, a fedora tilted just so (to begin with anyway) and banter reminiscent of the Rat Pack, Rod Gilbert in his Compliment to The Crooners, made it all look and sound so effortless – a fine compliment indeed.
