Sam Anning: EARTHEN album launch

The Barn at Rosny Farm

7pm, 15 June 2024

Tickets $35 Full, $15 Concession

Live for one night only the Sam Anning Septet will be appearing at the iconic Rosny Barn as part of their national tour.

After returning from NYC, Melbourne bassist-composer Sam Anning released two winning award albums attracting critical acclaim and an ARIA nomination. Earthen is his third septet album and is dedicated to the indomitable spirit of Indigenous Australian music icon, Uncle Archie Roach. Anning had the profound honour of being Uncle Archie’s bassist for three years before his passing in 2022. Featuring an ensemble of long-time Naarm/Melbourne-based collaborators, Andrea Keller (piano), Kyrie Anderson (drums), Mat Jodrell (trumpet), Carl Mackey (alto sax), Julien Wilson (tenor sax), and Theo Carbo (guitar), the album draws on the deep well of Roach’s wisdom, connection to the moment, resilience of spirit, and the medicinal power of music.

This incredible ensemble will be offering a masterclass in jazz performance in the afternoon at the Rosny Barn from 2.30pm-4pm. The masterclass is open to all musicians (BYO instrument) and members of the public who are interested in learning more about the creative process behind some of Australia’s leading jazz musicians.

This tour was made possible by a grant from Creative Australia and funding from the Clarence City Council.
