Inspired Solitude: artistic interpretations of Maatsuyker Island

Schoolhouse Gallery

13 Oct - 05 Nov 2017

Jutting out of the windswept ocean 13km off the coast in Tasmania’s South West Wilderness and home to Australia’s most southerly lighthouse, Maatsuyker Island ignites creativity in those fortunate to experience its raw beauty and wildness. Featuring new and experimental work from past volunteer caretakers Kate Worthington, Amanda Walker and Raelene Mibus, this exhibition is testament to the creativity inspired by time on remote Maatsuyker Island.

In the solitude of the daily routine and weather observations, stunned by the ever-changing seascapes and scenes, the island seeps into the soul, creativity wells up and is expressed in many forms.

Inspired Solitude is presented by the Friends of Maatsuyker Island – Wildcare (FOMI) and supported by work from Maatsuyker Island enthusiasts. The exhibition includes painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and photography as well as current and historical information about the island.
