An Open Call for early-career curators:

Clarence City Council (CCC) is offering an opportunity to a Tasmanian-based artist/curator through its City Culture Program to develop an exhibition for late 2023. This program seeks to benefit an artist/curator in the early stages of their career to realise an exhibition in a professional environment.

CCC will provide $3000 towards research and development for the selected applicant with an additional budget to be negotiated for artist fees for exhibiting artists. CCC will provide support in the form of project administration, print and digital promotion, technical support, and networking opportunities/connection to potential artists.

Applications will be assessed on conceptual strength, artistic excellence, relevance to Clarence (historical, present-day context, etc), benefits to career, and project feasibility.

Expectations of the curator/artist:

  • Develop a project for exhibition at the Schoolhouse Gallery, December 2023.
  • Negotiate and deliver a public event as part of the exhibition (e.g, floortalk, artist conversation, workshop)

To apply:

  • a brief description (500 words max) outlining the proposed themes/ key concepts of the exhibition.
  • a one-page CV
  • Visual support material (collated into a single PDF) – 5 images of relevant work and/or proposed artists.
