Delayed Translation: Bella Dower

Delayed Translation is a hybrid of image making, textiles, and small-scale sculpture. Exploring the notion of the present moment as being immediately past, and the assumption of ‘flawed’ recollection, Bella Dower lingers on the convoluted nature of perception and remembrance.

Using partially destroyed 35mm analogue photographic film, the exhibition is contextualised by unrepeatable material destruction. The harrowing experience of a shed fire on her parent’s property orchestrate chance compositions in half recognisable images. Familiarity and ambiguity brush together in disorientating compositions: ultimately oscillating between the bodily and material.
