Bus Bustle is a literal literary adventure aboard Clarence City Council’s community bus to get you from Hobart to the Eastern Shore and back for Word Up! Meaning you get to revel in merriment with no need to drive. Honouring famous Tasmanian poetry with live performances by established authors.

*Strictly departing from Castray Esplanade outside Princes Wharf 1, Salamanca at 5:45pm and returning on conclusion of the event. This is a limited capacity awesome add on for the first 20 people.

6:30pm

Write Here, Write Now is a poetry competition created by Arielle Cottingham (2016 Australian poetry slam winner) and Rhys Anderson to celebrate and encourage new and local poetry. Thing is, only poets competing have a say in who wins, making them the judges of their peers and decision-makers of taste in their own community.

Poets have 3:30 mins max to perform 1 poem of their own creation that is either about Tasmania (Write Here) or new and never before performed to an audience (Write Now). Competitors have 1 vote each for the winner. Tie breakers decided by host. Limit of 15 competitors. $10 competition entry, Winner takes away $250 cold hard cash!

Hosted by Australian Poetry Slam Champion Jesse Oliver.

7:30pm

A special showcase performance by Australian Poetry Slam Champion Jesse Oliver.

“Jesse Oliver is an Australian Poetry Slam Champion who wields his poetry like an end of times sign. He’s featured at festivals internationally and around Australia, including the National Young Writers Festival where, this year, he will be returning as Co-Director. Jesse likes to write about his lived experiences in fantastical themes like aliens or dreamscapes, and generally being wholesome.
