Returning Lives is the title of a new series of 20 oil and ink paintings that have been created in Tasmania by the Chinese-Australian artist Chen Ping. The commanding works of art use both colour and emptiness to enhance the presence of tension. They represent the artist’s emotional response to his own world, using the Buddhist concept of returning lives. Accompanying the paintings (and inspired by them) is an exquisite, hand drawn short animation film by Shanghai animator Zeng Yi Gang. A score for the animation has been composed by Gabriel Collet and will be performed live by Collet and Warsaw-based percussionist, Elwira Slazak.
